Hysteria is used to describe both the Salem Witch Trials and the Red Scare/McCarthyism. Why do you think this word is used in both contexts?

Answer:

Explanation: hysteria is an exaggerated emotion, during the salem witch trials there was hysteria because there was a panic over the ''witches'', while the red scare was a panic over the increase of communism or anarchism.. while those are very different to compare to each other they both have one thing in common which was a wide spread exaggeration of fear.
