Let the son's age be x and father's age be y.

Now the two equations are:-

5x-y=0__________eq.1

3(x+6)=y+6

3x-y=-12_________eq.2

Subtracting eq. 2 from eq. 1 we get:-

5x-y-3x+y=0+12

x=12/2

x=6

Putting value of x in eq. 1 we get:-

5x-y=0

5*6-y=0

30-y=0

y=30

Let the present age of son be x , then

the present age of father = 5x

After 6 year the age of

  • father = 5x + 6
  • son = x + 6

A/q

After 6 year father's age = 3 times his son age after 6 year.

 \bold{ \implies \:  5x + 6 = 3(x + 6)}

\bold{ \implies \: 5x + 6 = 3x + 18}

\bold{ \implies \:5x - 3x = 18 - 6 }

\bold{ \implies \:2x = 12 }

\bold{ \implies \:x =  \frac{12}{2}  }

\bold{ \implies \:x = 6 }

By putting the value of x

● the present age of son = x

= 6 years

● the present age of father = 5x

= 5 × 6

= 30 years

Hence , the present age of father and his son are 30 years and 6 years respectively.
