by doing more and more practice.
i think you should work more on grammatical portion rather than textbook
me too in class 9th and i have given my pre boards so i know that which portion you must work upon.....

Hey buddy! Its never too late to improve your skills! Solve a lot of sample questions from the text. Understand the basic themes of the chapters.

according to my observation I tell you some tips by which not only you score in english but in all the subject
these tips are-
(1) first of all don't learn any chapter just read it carefully
(2) after completing chapter read the summary of that chapter
(3) in english clear the concept of tenses (very important)
(4)after that be happy be calm and think that you can score better marks than previous one
