I am specialize in writing ghost stories but more or less they seem to specialize in me why does John hallock means when he says this

John Hallock means by saying this line is that he was not the one who liked writing ghost stories but he felt that he had an inbuilt talent of writing ghost stories.
it was not his talent but it was actually Helen the ghost who helped him writing stories.
