We know that sun rises in the east
so the needle of the compass will point towards north direction which is left to the centre where the backward extended lines of rays of the four directions meet.Simply it turns toward left. This happens only when we stand facing the sun rise (not sun set). It'll be right when facing towards the west when the sun sets.

The Compass will show north, because magnetic waves are the greatest in north direction
