(i) When driving to the airport the poet saw her mother who is described as having her face ashen which signifies paleness and death. This made the poet remember her childhood fear of losing her mother. This thought made her very sad.

(ii) She put the thought aside and tried to distract herself by looking outside the window and viewing  the world outside.

(iii) She noticed the sprinting tree which signifies the passing of time and the merry children spilling out of their homes which signifies her childhood.
