I couldn't believe what I saw says the narrator. What was so unbelievable for the narrator ?and Why?

Here 'I' refers to Aram. When he looked out of the window he couldn't believe his eyes because he saw his cousin Mourad on a magnificent white horse. He could not believe it because he knew that his cousin was not the owner of the horse, because they were poor. On the other hand, he could not believe that his cousin had stolen it because they both belonged to Garoghlanian tribe which was well known for its honesty.
