CHARACTERISTICS OF RICE CULTIVATION IN INDIA ARE :

1. Rice cultivation is mostly prominent in the Northern plains or Gangetic plains.

2. It requires a high rainfall which is available by the South West monsoon.

3. Rice is a kharif crop and sown in the May - June and harvested in September - October in India.

4. Rice is the major staple crop of India.

5. Rice cultivation is subsistence farming in the Southern India.

6. Major rice producing states are : Punjab, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha.

1.Rice is the staple food crop of people in india.
2.India is the second largestproducer of rice in the world.
3.It is a kharif crop and grows best in hot wet climate. In areas receiving low rainfall it grows with the help of irrigation facilities.
4.It grows in the Ganga Brahmputra plains, coastal regions and deltaic regions of india.
5.It requires low labour costs.
