In the year 1505 AD, Francisco de Almeida was appointed as the first Portuguese governor in India. The policies framed by him was being centric to control the Indian Ocean was known as the Blue Water Policy.

Goa became the headquarters of the Portuguese settlement in India. They superiority because of they had hold over the coastal areas and superiority in Naval power which helped them. Along with Goa, Daman, Diu and Salsette, Portuguese also captured the vast stretches along the Indian cost by the end of 16th century.

Alfonso de Albuquerque laid the foundation for the Portuguese in India. He replaced Almeida as a governor in the year 1509 AD. In the year 1510 AD, he captured Goa from the Sultan of Bijapur. Alfonso de Albuquerque was considered as a real founder of the Portuguese power in India

As we know, After independence first, she was part of the Congress Party and later she joined the Socialist Party (after seeing Congress Party’s progress on socialism).

She helped in the formation of the women’s wing in the Communist Party of India in 1956. It was called the National Federation of Indian Women.

She was also elected as the First Mayor of Delhi in 1958.
