In elementary algebra, root rationalisation is a process by which surds in the denominator of an irrational fraction are eliminated. These surds may be monomials or binomial involving square roots.
Example,rationalize-
10/ \sqrt{a}
To rationalise this kind of monomial bring in the factor :
10/ \sqrt{a}=10/ \sqrt{a}* \sqrt{a}/ \sqrt{a}=10 \sqrt{a}/( \sqrt{a})^{2}

In Rationalizing , you have to multiply the denominator with the given expression both to numerator or denominator by inversing signs that is +ve and -ve.The examples will help
Rationalizing 3/4
 3/4 *  -4/-4 = -12 / -16
