\huge\text {\underline {Question:}}

The sum of 3 numbers is 98. If the ratio of the first to the second is 2 : 3 and that of the second to the third is 5 : 8 , Find the three numbers.

\bold {\huge {Answer:\:30, 20, 48 }}

\huge\underline {\tt Explanation:}

Let first number be ' a '

second be ' b '

and

third be ' c '

It is given that : -

a : b = 2 : 3 ; b : c = 5 : 8

Also, the sum of three numbers is 98.

That is -

a + b + c = 98 ------------- ( ! )

So,

 \dfrac {a}{b} = \dfrac {2}{3} \\ \\ ==> 3a = 2b \\ \\ ==> a = \dfrac {2}{3} \times {b} ------ ( !! )

Also,

 \dfrac {b}{c} = \dfrac {5}{8} \\ \\ ==> 8b = 5c \\ \\ So, \: c = \dfrac {8}{5} \times {b} ---- ( !!! )

Now,

Substitute ( !! ) and ( !!! ) in ( ! )

We get,

a + b + c = 98

 \dfrac {2}{3} \times {b} + b + \dfrac {8}{5} \times {b} - 98

 b = \dfrac{ 10 + 1 + 24}{15} - 98

•°•  b = 30

Finally,

For a ,

 \dfrac {a}{b} = \dfrac {2}{3} \\ \\ ==> \dfrac {a}{30} = \dfrac {2}{3}  \\ \\ ==> 3a = 30\times 2 \\ \\ ==>  a = \dfrac {60}{3} \\ \\ \therefore a = 20

For c ,

 \dfrac {b}{c} = \dfrac{5}{8} \\ \\ ==> \dfrac {30}{c} = \dfrac {5}{8} \\ \\ ==> 5c = 30\times {8} \\ \\ ==> c = \dfrac {240}{5}

•°• c = 48

Answer :

Value of a = 20

Value of b = 30

Value of c = 48

\huge\mathscr\green {Verification:}

Sum of the three numbers is 98.

So,

30 + 20 + 48 = 98

==> 50 + 48 = 98

==> 98 = 98
