1.Solve the following:
a) The teacher tells the class that the highest mark obtained by a student in her class is twice lowest mark plus 7. The highest score is 87. What is the lowest score

let x be the lowest score

so, 2x+7=87

=2x=80

=x=80/2

x=40

hence the lowest score is 40

highest score = 87

87 = 2x + 7

80 = 2x

x = 40

therefore, lowest score = 40 marks
