Answer:

i) How does transpiration help in the functioning of the plants?

Ans) Transpiration is said to provide the energy to transport water in the plant and may aid in heat dissipation in direct sunlight. Transpiration helps plants to supply water from roots to top parts of plants thereby distributing water to all parts of the plant.

ii) During an experiment, a plant leaf was coated with Vaseline. What would happen to the leaf and why?

Ans) The leaves of a healthy plant coated with vaseline will not remain healthy because the vaseline coating will block the stomata. As a result,

The plant would not get oxygen for respiration.

It would not get carbon dioxide to carry out photosynthesis.

The upward movement of water and minerals would be hampered due to lack of transpiration.
