I'm an integer. when you add -1 to me, The sum is the opposite of the difference when you subtract -5 from me. What integer am I?

Answer:

Two integers have a sum of 53 and a difference of 17. Find the larger integer.

I'm thinking it should be x + x = 53

x - x = 17

So maybe subtract 53 and 17 to get 36. But i don't think thats right either.

Let the second integer be y

x+y=53 (sum)

x-y=17 (difference)

--------

2x=70

x=35

y=53-35

y=18

Hence, the two integers are 18, and 35.
