(i) This a process of evaporation. Water turns from a liquid to a gas or vapour through the process of evaporation. The main way that water enters the water cycle as atmospheric water vapour after leaving the liquid stage is through evaporation.

As illustrated in the given figure which is attached below, place a watch glass on the beaker's mouth. On the watch's glass, sprinkle a few drops of ink. The beaker can now begin to warm up. We don't want to directly heat the ink. Evaporation from the watch glass may be seen in action. As the evaporation progresses, keep heating; until the watch glass shows no further change, stop heating.
We will now see that the water has evaporated from the watch glass and that some residue remains. The coloured component is this residue (Dye). Evaporation can be used in this manner to extract volatile components from a solution.
