                                             Fire: Friend and Foe

Discovery of fire was a turning point in the history of mankind. It became a guiding light and savior of man since Stone Age. Since then, it has been man’s friend and helper. We cannot imagine our life without fire.  It is a source of warmth for people living in very cold regions of the world. It makes our breakfasts, lunches, and dinners delicious. Still in the backward parts of the world, where technology has not yet reached, it is the only source of light at night. Even in the fast developing countries, it is the source of power generation in thermal power plants. Fire is closely associated with festivities, traditional celebrations, etc. Fire is symbol of knowledge and enlightenment. However, it is a dangerous entity. Fire in itself is power. If anyone misuses this power, then it can consume anything into ashes. As the famous saying goes: ‘Either you can cook a man’s dinner with it, or you can cook the man himself.’ Fire of course is man’s friend , but it must be used wisely.
