The story sets in a small village near banikhet in Himachal pradesh and revolves around a young girl named Biniya and shopkeeper Nand kishore khatri.Biniya lives with her mother and her elder brother. One day she came across a blue japenese umbrella while herding her cows. Biniya develops a liking towards the umbrella. She trade the umbrella with her bear claw necklace called Yantra.Everyone in the village is amazed by the beauty of the blue umbrella.This make some people jealous of her.The shopkeeper Nand kishore khatri tries to buy the umbrella from biniya but she refuses.Khatri's shop boy Rajaram gave offers to khatri to steal the umbrella in increase in his salary.After some days Biniya find her umbrella missing and becomes heartbroken.Time passed by now khatri has the umbrella. He gave the umbrella to a textile dyer for dying it.After few days villagers nominate Khatri name as the president of upcoming village wrestling competition.Biniya continue her investigation and find that the umbrella which now khatri have is actually her and it is sent by a textile dyer.On the day of the competition Khatri is preside over and it rains during his speech.The dye from the umbrella comes off and Khatri revealed to be the thief .Now Khatri's life become miserable as no one wants to visit his shop.Biniya sympathises with Khatri and decides that Khatri is the real owner of the umbrella not her.So she gives umbrella to Khatri and then he is accepted by the villagers
