Mona lisa,
also known as La Gioconda or La Joconde. a 16th-century portrait painted in oil by LEONARDO DA VINCI during the Renaissance in Florence, Italy. The Louvre says that about 80 percent of its visitors come to see the painting of Mona Lisa.
The Italian name for the painting, La Gioconda, means "jocund" ("happy" or "jovial") or, literally, "the jocund one", a pun on the feminine form of Lisa'smarried name, "Giocondo". In French, the title La Joconde has the same meaning.
