Answer:

Answer is $23

Step-by-step explanation:

As you have been given a total of 4 things to be bought, and agree to spend only $115 out of the money you have at the moment.

Hence that is our total amount.

15% of $115 will be for Blanket.

25% of $115 for Toys.

40% of $115 for Clothes.

And the amount left out of $115 will be left for Jake's Diapers.

Now we can make an equation of this data, such that, if we add all the percentages together, they will equal to $115, which is the amount of money that we have, to spend on Jake.

Percentage can be expressed in form of Decimals, such that

15\% =  \frac{15}{100}  = 0.15

Now

Total Expenditures = Addition of all the percentages of respective stuff that needs to be bought

We know that, $115 is total Expenditure.

Let x be the amount left to be spent on Diapers.

Now, putting the values we have in an Equation.

115 = (0.15 \times 115) + (0.25 \times 115) + (0.4 \times 115) + x

115 = 17.25 + 28.75 + 46 + x

Adding all the values of right side,

115 = 92 + x

Separating like terms to one side i.e constants on one side, and Variable to the other.

115 - 92 = x

23 = x

Which can also be written as, x = 23

Hence $23 will be the amount that they will have left, out of $115 to spend on Diapers!
