QueStI0N -

If the product of two numbers is 3 (1 / 5 ) and one of the numbers is 1 ( 3 / 5 ), than what will be the sum of the numbers ?

S0LUTI0N -

Let us assume that there exists two arbitrary numbers such that -

  • The product of the two numbers is ( 16 / 5 )

Now,

We have the following information -

One of the numbers is 8 / 5.

So,

If x = ( 8 / 5 )

=> x × y = ( 16 / 5 )

=> ( 8 / 5 ) × y = ( 16 / 5 )

=> y = ( 16 / 5 ) ÷ ( 8 / 5 )

=> y = ( 16 / 5 ) × ( 5 / 8 )

=> y = ( 16 / 8 ) × ( 5 / 5 )

=> y = 2 × 1

=> y = 2 ..

Hence , we have obtained a pair of numbers such that their values fit into the conditions above .

The two required numbers are ( 8 / 5 ) and 2 respectively .

Sum Of The Numbers -

=> ( 8 / 5 ) + 2

=> ( 18 / 5 )

Answer -

Hence the required sum of the numbers is ( 18 / 5 ).
