i)

The sun light is reaches the earth's even after sunset because the light travels from vacuum to an optically denser medium air which bends the rays of sun inwards more towards the normal of the interface of the atmosphere.

The refraction of light through various layers of the atmosphere gives us the appearance of twinkling of stars.

ii) D=+10\ diopter

Explanation:

  1. The sun light is reaches the earth's even after sunset because the light travels from vacuum to an optically denser medium air which bends the rays of sun inwards more towards the normal of the interface of the atmosphere.
  2. The refraction of light through various layers of the atmosphere gives us the appearance of twinkling of stars.

Given:

focal length of a convex lens, f=10\ cm=0.1\ m

The power of a lens is given as the reciprocal of its focal length in meters.

D=\frac{1}{f}

D=\frac{1}{0.1}

D=+10\ diopter
