 {(2 +  \sqrt{2}) }^{2}  =  {2}^{2}  +  { \sqrt{2} }^{2}  + 2(2)( \sqrt{2} ) = 4 + 2 + 4 \sqrt{2}  = 6 + 4 \sqrt{2}
