"I stopped, horrified in a room I knew and didn't know."

The line was said by the narrator when she enters the living room of Mrs. Dorling's house.

She said this because she was at a place where she was familiar with all the things but those things were arranged in a different way.

She was familiar with all those silver utensils, table clothes, knifes etc.

But the only thing was that she couldn't get all those things back. It was all used by Mrs. Dorling's family and now all those things lost it's worth..

⬆The above lines were spoken by Mrs. S's Daughter { the narrator } When she took an entry in Mrs.Doorling's House . She had gone there to claim the belongings of her mother but Mrs.Doorling Had straight away refused to heed to her . Then she gave a second try and finally was taken in by Her daughter .

➡She says the Above lines as when she enters the room , she is shocked to see the room filled with the belongings of her mother. The candle stand , the table cloth , antiques almost everything belonged to her mother .

✨So she says that it was a room that she knew because of the things kept there and at the same time she was completely unaware of the place as she had paid a visit for the first time there . So the place is both known as well as unknown for her.
