The reddish appearance of the sun at sunrise or sunset is due to scattering of light by the molecules of air and other fine particles in the atmosphere have size smaller than the wavelength of visible light from the sun near the horizon.

1)During sunrise nd sunset the rays hve to travel at a larger part of atmosphere because they r very close to the horizon.therefore the light other than red is mostly scattered away. Most of the red light,which is least scattered enters our eyes hence the sky nd sun appear red.

2)Violet colour refractive index is maximum nd red colour is minimum
