The speed of sound in air is 320 ms–1 and in a liquid medium it is 1400 ms–1.
(i) How much time will it take in air to cover 1600 m?
(ii) How much distance will it cover in liquid medium in same time?

Answer:

[i] answer = 2 secs

[ii] answer =

Explanation:

distance \:  =  \: speed \:  \times time

1600 = 320 x time

Time = 2 seconds

distance covered in medium

= 1400 x 2

= 2800 meters or 2.8 km

Time = 5 seconds; Distance in liquid = 7km

Explanation:

Speed of sound in air = 320 ms–1

Speed of sound in liquid = 1400 ms–1

(i) Distance = speed * time

1600 = 320 * time

Time = 1600 / 320 = 5 seconds

Time taken for sound to cover 1600m in air = 5 seconds.

(ii) In liquid, speed = 1400 and time = 5 s

Distance = speed * time = 1400 * 5 = 7000 metres = 7 km

Distance covered by sound in liquid at the same time  = 7 km
