Answer:

1. The poet use symbolism while using fire, depicting desire and ice, depicting hatred as two ways which can bring an end to earth by burning it with desire and lust or by freezing it by hatred and indifference, in both the ways, ending the humanity on earth.

2. Amanda wants to be rapunzel as she wishes to love alone, peacefully, and without letting anyone enter her solitary tower by letting her long hair down. She wants to have a life away from all the nagging of her mother, where nobody would ever disturb her or bother her.

Answer:

1. The use of symbolism in the poem 'Fire and Ice conveys the poet's message effectively. Both fire and ice are destructive. fire which is the symbol of desire which leads to unlimited wants. Because of unlimited wants people will fight with one another that will lead to war. this will be the end of the world.

one other side is ice which is also not less destructive. ice is the sign of cold war. people do not confront directly but each one is julous to other. this julousy will lead to slow death as compared with ice.

ii) Justify the poet's allusion to Rapunzel in Amanda

Rapunzel was a girl who was captured by an old witch in a tower. The old witch climbed up the tower with the help of Rapunzel's very long hair which she let down for her through a window of the tower.

Amanda wanted to be Rapunzel so that no one could disturbe her. she wanted to live a lufe of isolation where no body could give command or order.
