I thought answer should be +6 but in answer key the answer given was zero why??​

FOR A WHILE ,

Let us assume that the oxidation state of chromium is x.

Now ,

cr = x

O = 6

Hence ,

x + 6 × 0

X = 0

Therefore the oxidation state of chromium is zero.

Moreover ,

As we know that the complex is homoleptical in nature and as you can see all the lighads present there are similar to each other hence purely identical in nature.

Therefore,

The Oxidation number of Cr in Cr(CO)6

x+6(0)=0

Or

x=0
