Solution-

Let the number be x.

The number, after doubling and deducting 17 = 2x-17

According to condition,

6×(2x-17) = 126

⇒ 12x-102 = 126

⇒ 12x = 126+102

⇒ 12x = 228

⇒ x = 228/12

⇒ x = 19

Hence, the number is 19.

Verify-

6×(2x-17) = 126

⇒ 6×{(2×19)-17} = 126

⇒ 6×(38-17) = 126

⇒ 6×21 = 126

⇒ 126 = 126

Hence, L.H.S = R.H.S.
