Answer:

I said to him, " You are wrong."

Explanation:

I told him that he was wrong

The above sentence is written in indirect narration.

Rule:

1.Indirect speech has no quoted statement i.e, has no double inverted comma " ".

2. Actual words of the speaker are not used( actual speech of the speaker is transformed into indirect by the use of, that and changing the pronoun.

To change into direct speech:

1. we change the reported verb, from "told" to "said"

2. change personal pronoun from object to subjective pronoun( me - I, him/her - you)

3. change of auxiliary verb form from past to present ( was - are)

Note: Whenever changing speech we only bring about changes in the pronouns( object to subject or subject to object). Secondly, we change the auxiliary form of the verb(present to past and vice versa)

In the case of direct speech when a double quotation is used " ...." The period (full stop) should be put first and not after the quotation mark.

All punctuations should fall within the inverted comma and not out

incorrect: " You are wrong".

correct: " You are wrong."

This is the basic rule for change in narration.

Hope I cleared your doubt.
