Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the 2 numbers be x and y (x>y)

Given,

x - y = 3........... 1

x + 2y = 15........2

Now by subtracting eq. 2 from eq. 1

We get ,

x - y = 3

- x + 2y = 15

(-) (-)

_____________

- 3y = - 12

y = 4

Hence the smaller no. is 4.

By putting the value of y in eq. 1 or 2

We can get the bigger no. i. e 7

Let the greater number be x and the smaller number be y

From first conditionx-y=3......... (1)

Twice the smaller number=2y

From second condition x+2y=15........(2)

Multiplying eq. (1) by 2 2x-2y=6.......(3)

Adding eq. (2) and (3)

x+2y=15

x+2y=15

+

2x2y=6

__________

3x =21

x=21/3

x=7

Substituting x=7 in eq. (1)

7-y=3

-y=3-7

-y=-4

y=4

The smaller number is 4

hope it helps u dear
