Good Day, esteemed moderator, audience and my fellow opponents. Today, I shall be debating for the motion — "Children should provide room and board for their aging parents" . With advancements in technology and human progress, people are beginning to lead a fast-paced and mechanical lifestyle, running after money-minting jobs. However, these money-centric individuals tend to ignore the very own people who have helped them become the people they are today — the parents. Yes indeed. Parents are the most deprived people, in our circle of friends-families-relatives-acquaintances. The people who sacrificed their likings and desires for their child's wellbeing, utilised their savings to buy their daughter a new doll, bought a cake for the birthday boy to throw a party at the eleventh hour, are now subjected to utter ignorance. Well, ignorance is never a bliss, especially if it is intentional. Our parents are next to God, for they have given up their self-centred choices so that they could fulfill yours. And today, the number of old age homes are increasing at a fast pace. Joint families are disintegrated by time & money, and nuclear families are further being disintegrated by avoidance. Moreover, this has become quite of a business affair for the NGOs themselves; the multiplying admissions of the poor parents into old age homes have resulted in a full-fledged business and lack of care for the elderly — sanitation, food, shelter, clothing and daily habits are now at stake in these places. Thus, sending parents to these homes is not just sending them to hell, but also descending yourselves in it. Finally, the children tend to have difficulties in associating themselves with their far-off grandparents, for both rarely meet each other. Thus, its not just for the sake of yourselves, but also for your children and your parents, to give them the unconditional love and affection they deserve from us. Thank you.
