As an employee and one of the managers of the editing team, it was my main job to oversee what the other writers have brought up and made changes for any edits before they are finalized. But at the same time, it is also important to strategize with the whole team over what should be on the front page of our newspaper.
One of our stories that we were investigating with a follow-up was the murder of a whole family while on holiday. It was a total mess, with no one to come as witnesses nor anyone to ask for any evidence or hint of what went wrong. But when the lawyer came and as the sole executor of the family's estate, he began to shed some light on the whole family issue. It seems there was nothing wrong within the family and there was no foul play in it.
And once the case was closed, it was the united effort of the whole team. The expertise of the whole team in assembling the facts and the story, the sequence of what might have happened and their own perspectives of what the scenario might be, all helped a lot in the case. And it made me realize that once I retire, there will be a lot of my editors and employees that I can refer to as my protege, and I am proud of what they have turned and learned in the job.
