Answer:

Steam enters a horizontal convergent-divergent nozzle at a pressure. of 10 bar, a

temperature of 300 C, a specific volume of 0.2579 m'kg. enthalpy of 3050 kJ/kg

and at a velocity of 40 m/s. The pressure, temperature, specific volume and enthalpy

of the steam at the exit of the nozzle are 6 bar, 200 C, 0.3520m/kg and 2849 kJ/kg

respectively. The heat loss from the nozzle is negligible. The diameter of the nozzle

at the inlet is 0.35 m. The specific volume of the steam at the inlet and the exit of the

nozzle are 0.2579m'kg and 0.3520mIkg respectively. Find a) the velocity of the

steam at the exit, b) the mass flow rate of the steam per second and c) the exit area of

the nozzle.
