I want just some matter about direct and indirect speech could u plz help me to explain to my students it's too difficult to me

In indirect speech you just answer as the third person who overhears some conversation. We just change the following words like -

now = then

tonight = that night

yesterday = the day before / the previous day

tomorrow = the next day / the following day

last (year, month.) = the last /previous (year, month...)

next (month, week..) = the next / following (month, week...)

this = that

that = that

these = those

can = could

may = might

must = had to

We change the sentences using past tense.

present simple into past simple

present prefect continuous into past perfect continuous.

present perfect into past perfect.

past simple into past perfect and past continuous into past perfect continuous.
