1. Yes, when the people are pious and good even nature mourns their death as the narrator's grandmother who was a very pious and a good lady ,on her death even the birds who she used to feed everyday had come and gathered around her shroud covered corpse in thousands.

2. The three phases of the author's relationship with his grandmother before he left the country to study abroad are: childhood – when he went to the village school and the grandmother helped him to get ready and went to school with him. boyhood – when he went to the city school in a bus.

3. The grandmother was not formally educated but was serious about the author's education because she had a regret which pinched her whole life that she was not educated and she did not want her children to have the same regression in their life.

5. She was a lady of fewer words and more work. She used to walk around the house putting one hand in her back and counting the beads of her rosary in the other. She took her grandson to school, which was attached to a temple. While the author attend his class, she read the scriptures in the temple.

6. Gradually, the author and his grandmother saw less of each other and their friendship was broken. This distancing was due to the demand of situation, not deliberate.

7. The title is an appropriate one because the story revolves around an old lady and as the portrait never changes as so the behavior of the old lady never changed since the narrator saw him.
