I want to know in depth why there is two equation for an eccentricity of an ellipse

What I ment to say is that if symbol e represents eccentricity of an ellipse, c represents the length of the of line segment joining the origin and the focal point , A represents the length of semi major axis , D represents the distance from diretrix to any point on ellipse as k represents the length of line segment joining focal point and to that point on an ellipse were D is joined to that point on ellipse, then why e=c/A=k/D in particular if k becomes equal to A at the point were major axis meets ellipse then equation will turnout to be e=c/A=A/K, here we can see A will end up being numerator in one equation and denominator in the other equation. I cannot understand how the proportionality works in an intuivistic way , what in mean to say is that I need an answer by which I can visualize things.
