When you had hypothyroidism, the thyroid gland didn't make enough thyroid hormone to meet your needs of body. That's why you took thyroid replacement therapy.
A doctor prescribed a dose based on your weight, on how well your thyroid was working and on how your blood absorbed the hormone.
Each person's metabolism is different and serum levels of thyroid hormone change slowly. Your doctor may need to fine- tune the dose once you start taking the medication. That's normal.
Now you are saying you developed hyperthyroidism because of higher or irregular medication, How could it be possible:-
Reasons could have been :-
(1) Sometimes, doctors overestimate the dosage you require to return back to normal status and resolve symptoms. This is doctor induced hyperthyroidism
(2) You may get the wrong dosage of medication or incorrect prescribing instructions. Pay particular attention to symptoms that develop after a recent pharmacy refill.Your pharmacist may have a mistake in your medicine dosage or in drug instructions This.is pharmacist induced hyperthyroidism
(3) If you are taking generic levothyroxine ( which many doctors don't recommend), you may have gotten a more potent batch on your last refill.
Even the slight change of potency from one refill to the next, particularly when refills come from different manufacturers of generic levothyroxine, can be enough to push you into hyperthyroidism. This is Medicine induced hyperthyroidism.
(4) You may have started taking an over the counter supplement that includes animal thyroid. Pay particular attention to " thyroid support " ,energy support and diet aids that include ingredients like " thyroid glandulars" or " bovine glandulars ".These glandular supplements may contain actual thyroid hormone and cause you to be over medicated.
(5)Too much iodine can aggravate your thyroid and trigger hyperthyroidism.
(6) If you may have recently changed your diet you may be absorbing higher levels of thyroid medication.
The good news is that there is a straight forward solution to over medication :---
Cut back your dosage of Thyroid hormone medication and eliminate any suspect supplements, such as iodine or glandulars.
Your doctor should run periodic thyroid test and adjust your dosage as needed until your thyroid levels returns to normal and your symptoms of over medication are eliminated.
Hope it helps. All the best.
