1)Why are there different states of matter?
2) How can you conclude that solid , liquid and gases can diffuse into liquid?
3) Which distinct property of solids or liquids is justified from the below mentioned activities:-
* Transferring 50ml awesome milk from a cylindrical container into a rectangular container
*Transferring sugar crystals from plate to jar
Answers
Gases, liquids and solids are all made up of microscopic particles, but the behaviors of these particles differ in the three phases. The figure illustrates the microscopic differences
Particles in a:
gas are well separated with no regular arrangement.
liquid are close together with no regular arrangement.
solid are tightly packed, usually in a regular pattern.
a.Salt and sugar kept in different jars take the shape of the jars, yet they are classified as solid.
b.Solid have negligible compressibility yet sponge can compressed.
c.Gases exert pressure on the wall of the container

Hey buddy here is your answer
1) The different types of matter are as follows
1. Solid
2. Liquid
3. Gaseous
As to why matter is of three different states here is your answer,
This is because of the density of the substances,
- solids have particles which are very tightly packed.
-Liquids have particles which are not that tightly packed but yet are closely packed.
- where as gases have freely flowing particles.
Moreover atomic capacity of materials also differs from one another. Moreover the physical and chemical properties of various materials have led to the distinction of matter into three states.
2) Diffusion refers to the process of substances moving from higher concentration to lower concentration area.
Diffusion of solids in liquids occur.
Example- The spreading of purple colour of potassium permanganate into water, on its own, is due to the diffusion of potassium permanganate particles into water.
Similarly, diffusion of gaseous particles occur in liquids.
Example- The gases like carbon dioxide and oxygen are essential for the survival of aquatic plants and animals. The carbon dioxide and oxygen gas present in air diffuse into water, and dissolve in it. The aquatic plants use the dissolved carbon dioxide for preparing food by photosynthesis and aquatic animals use the dissolved oxygen of water for breathing.
Hence we can conclude that both solids and gases diffuse in liquids.
And even liquids also diffuse in liquids.
3)
* The property here is that the volume of the liquid remains same though it's size or the container in which it is placed may change.
* Similarily here in solids, both size and volume remains same though the container in which it is kept has changed.
Hope it helps
