Let the number of students in the van be x
Let the number of students in the bus be y
From the data :-
School A:- 8x+8y=240---------------1
School B:- 4x+y=54--------------2
Now multiplying equation 2 with 2 we will get :-
8x+2y=108----------------3
Subtracting equation 3 from equation 1:-
8x+8y=240
8x+2y=108
- - -
=>6y=132
y=132/6
y=22
Substituting value of y in equation 2:-
4x+y=54
4x=54-22
4x=32
x=8
Answer:- The number of students in the van=x=8
The number of students in the bus=y=22
