Let the two numbers be x and y

From the data :- x+y=1000--------------1

Also, If x>y:- x-y=998---------------2

Adding equation 1 and 2 we will get ,

2x=1998
x=999

Substituting value of x in equation 1

x+y=1000
y=1000-999
y=1

Answer:- x=999,y=1

Hello friend

Good morning

Your answer is given below :

Let the 1st be x

And 2nd no. Be y

In 1st case

=> x + y = 1000. ( i )

And 2nd case

=> x - y = 998. ( ii )

Subtracting ( ii ) from ( i ) eq, we get

=> x + y - x + y = 1000 - 998

=> 2y = 2

=> y = 1

So,

=> x = 1000 - 1

=> x = 999

So the values of

x = 999
y = 1

It is the required answer
