if solid dissolves in the liquid, sedimentation and decantation method cannot be used. why?

if a solid dissolves in liquid sedimentation cannot occur because there won't be any formation of the sedements in the liquid as the soild is complete dissolved in the liquid.The process of sedimentation and decantation method only works for separation of insoluble compounds ( compounds which do not mix or dissolve in and liquid )
