1. Democracy is based on the principle of political equality, on recognising that the poorest and the least educated have the same status as the rich and the educated. People are not subjects of a rulers, they are rulers themselves.

2.Merits of democracy:

A democratic government is a better government because it is a more accountable form of government.

Democracy improves the quality of Decision Making

Democracy provides a method to deal with differences and conflicts

Democracy allows people to correct their own mistakes

In a democracy, people rule themselves as leaders are elected by them

Demerits of democracy:

Democracy is all about political competition and power play. There is no scope for morality.

Consultation in democracy from many people leads to delays.

Not knowing the best interest of the people by the elected leaders leads to bad decisions.

Democracy leads to corruption for it is based on electoral competition.

3.1) Corruption:- the elected leaders takes the money which is for the Welfare of the people in their pockets.

2) crime:-during the elections some candidates forces the common people to vote them.

3) fake promises:-some of the elected leaders make fake promises to the people to vote them.

4) divisions of society:-some candidates create discrimination among the people so that the people of his or her cast should vote him.

5) lack of right decision:-some leaders take major decisions for themselves but not for people & some of the leaders don't know the need of common people this leads to lack of right decision.

4. Some of the major features of democracy are:

The final decision making power rests with those elected by the people.

It must be based on a free and fair election.

Each adult citizen must have one vote and each vote must have one value.

It should rule within limits set by constitutional law and citizens’ rights.

5. because a democratic government is involved of members of rajya sabha lok sabha  if a decision taken by the government goes to the panel of rajya sabha and lok sabha were lots of discussion is taken place where possible mistake are made so this is called government of discussion .
