I think the Childhood is an important theme in the Book because the Kipps is comforted by his own memories of his childhood while he is living in the Eel Marsh House. The Eel Marsh House is haunted by a lady who lost her kid in a carriage crash.
Whenever someone sees the Woman in Black, a child dies. The book revolves around the trauma of a whole village, who have lost their children and Kipps' wife who died.
