The idea of nationalism in India was through many different ways including paintings, stories, symbols etc. and one of them was folklore.
Nationalist from different part of India began collecting it in order to show their shared culture and raise the feeling of collective belongings in the people in the following ways:
(i) The folk tale sung by Bards were being recorded.
(ii) Rabindranath Tagore of Bengal began collecting ballads and rhymes.
(iii) In madras, Natesh Shastri published a massuve version of Tamil folk lore called the " Folklore of Southern India"
(iv) Folklore of groups like Santhals was inserted into literature.
