To mark the National Mathematics Day and as a part of the British Council’s International School Activity, Vidya Pratishthan's New Bal Vikas Mandir, Pimpli organised an expert talk on 'Wonder Math in Monuments' on December 22.
Nandita Shah, Sayali Modi and Shruti Mrudula Waghmode were invited to share the information about the mathematical connect with the two wonders of the world- The Taj Mahal in India and The Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt with the students of class VIII.
Nandita Shah and Sayali Modi briefed the students about architecture and its relation with Mathematics, the use of mathematics in daily life and the mathematics used in monuments with the help of power point presentation.
Shruti Mrudula Waghmode interacted with the students and explained the structure of Taj Mahal i.e the dome, the minarets, the pond, the floral design etc. and the symmetry in them. She also threw light on the golden ratio and how architectural monuments are built using golden ratio even today. She urged the students to find about the Fibonacci series and its existence in nature.
The information shared by the experts was really brainstorming and the students were contented to know about these wonder monuments- The Taj Mahal and The Great Pyramids of Giza.
