* on careful heating of gypsum at 373 K it lose
molecules partially to become calcium sulphate hemihydrate this is called plaster of paris .
* plaster of paris is the substance which doctors use as plaster for supporting fractured bones in the right position .


* Plaster of paris is a white powder and on mixing with water ,it sets into hard solid mass due to formation of gypsum .

CHEMICAL EQUATION :

CaSO4 . 1/2H2 O( plaster of paris ) + 1 1/2 H2 O GIVES RISE. CaSO4. 2H2 O ( gypsum ) .

Preparation :

On heating Gypsum at 373 K Plaster of Paris is formed.

CaSO₄. 2 H₂O    ⇒ CaSO₄. 1/2 H₂O + 3/2 H₂O

Special precaution :

We shouldn't heat gypsum above 373 K else it will not form.
