It is bleaching powder whose chemical formula is CaOCl2, it is mainly used in urban areas by government for disinfecting a large amount of water at a time.

It is formed when calcium hydroxide reacts with chlorine gas.

It's chemical formula can be written as :-

Ca(OH)2 + Cl2 = CaOCl2 + H2O

On exposure to air it absorbs all the moisture.
