Portrait can be of any size whereas Miniature paintings are the small sized paintings executed on small books or albums, small sized paper or fabric.
Portraits are specifically pictures, drawings, paintings or sketches of people, animal etc. whereas Miniature paintings can be anything, any event, any scene, any portrait etc.
