"{ I }_{ 2 }(g)\quad +\quad { H }_{ 2 }S(g)\quad \rightarrow \quad 2HI(g)\quad +\quad S(s)

In the above reaction, the sulphur is the reductant and iodine is the oxidant

Sulphur:  From -2 oxidation state sulphur is changed to 0 oxidation state

Iodine: From 0 oxidation state iodine is changed to -1 oxidation state

The "oxidizing agent" is an "electron acceptor" and "reducing agent" is an "electron donor"."
