scalar is that when the magnitude is needed by us to understand for eg speed and distance

like we can say that a boy is at 50 m away from another boy in this we not need direction where as when we also need direction with magnitude that's called vector eg displacement and velocity like we can take above eg if we have said 50 m away that's is approx bcoz we not know Direction in which he is standing so we can reach him at exact if you only say 50 m away it can be in any direction moreover scalar is always positive and vector negative
